The Kraken Bolter is a upgrade to the standard Space Marine ranged weapon, the Bolter. It is found in Chapter 10 in the single-player campaign of Space Marine.
Description[]
The standard ammunition is replaced with Kraken penetrator rounds, hard-tipped projectiles with a heavier explosive charge than normal bolts, increasing the weapon's effectiveness against armored targets such as Chaos Space Marines.
Technically, the upgrade functions as a single-player "perk" modifying your basic Bolter statistics, but the game presents it as a separate weapon.
A remarkable visible difference is the new drum magazine.
Strategy[]
It's a rapid-fire weapon, useful at range if aimed and at close quarters from the hip. Fire in short bursts, as it conserves ammunition and increases accuracy. Switch to full-auto if melee attackers close in. Elite opponents like the Slugga Nob and Chaos Space Marines often require multiple magazines to eliminate, though not as many as the regular Bolter, so make sure to stay behind cover when reloading (for ranged elites) or switch to melee (for melee elites).
