Space Marine Wiki

Giveaway?[]

Hey, wanted to see what you thought about a giveaway attached to the launch of the game. The game is rated M so that makes it hard to give away, but there's plenty of cool stuff related to the franchise we could giveaway. Like this stuff for instance. We could build out a pretty cool space marine prize pack around that merch. What do you think?

Also, would you be open to us creating a walkthrough like the one we did for Alice wiki ? We think it'll really help draw people to this wiki once the game comes out. Oh, want to also have a staff member come in and seed content. Know you said you were pretty busy the last time we talked, so I'd like to have someone come in and help out so we're up to date before the game launches. Let me know what you think! tae (talk) 20:59, August 25, 2011 (UTC)

:D Why would I object to that... Just do all you can, of course.
Regarding giveaway prizes, though, note that painting 40K miniatures to GW promotion standard takes a lot of skill & practice and a lot of people interested in Space Marine may not even know about the tabletop game, let alone have the dedication/equipment to assemble & paint such nice Ultramarines stuff... And if you start from scratch, your first models are more likely to look like this than this. --Unknown Primarch 11:44, August 27, 2011 (UTC)
Damn, you're right. The pretty pictures they put on the site fooled me into thinking that that's how they came. Didn't realize someone would have to paint them, and I'm guessing they don't look so great if they're not painted, yeah? Shoot. Okay, back to the drawing board. Just know that if you have any ideas regarding a giveaway, I'm open to hearing them. Also putting the word out to THQ so they're aware of this wiki and that we're supporting it. Our content team is hear to help as the game goes to launch, so let me know if you need anything. tae (talk) 17:34, August 29, 2011 (UTC)
Hey, just wanted to let you know that I am going to have a staff member come in and help create a walkthrough for this game when it comes out. We'll be using a similar template to the one found on our Alice Wiki. Very video heavy, with enough text to support. It'll be created in the Walkthrough namespace to help separate it from the main wiki. Let me know if you have any thoughts on this. And I'm still open to doing that giveaway, if you have any ideas. Thanks!tae (talk) 20:59, September 2, 2011 (UTC)

Well hmm, some related stuff off the top of my head:

  • Space Marine DLC (a bit tricky since stuff like pre-order bonuses might be available as paid DLC right away but it might also take a while)
  • 40k novels or art books from Black Library (the Horus Heresy series is quite popular, while Ultramarines series is most related; the Heresy-era art book is OK and there are also comics)
  • Dawn of War series games (same developer & publisher & 40k setting)
  • Table-top starter set or Space Hulk (need assembly/painting, could be too hardcore)
  • There are lots of people selling display quality pre-painted models that you can find on e.g. eBay ([1], [2], [3]), you can also find online painting studios that accept custom commission jobs (from basic paint jobs to to custom sculpting whatever you can imagine)
  • The Ultramarines movie

Hmmmm can't think of else for the moment. You could always ask Relic or THQ if they want to be involved. I know they have given game/DLC prizes for Dawn of War tournaments recently. --Unknown Primarch 11:04, September 3, 2011 (UTC)

Warhammer 40k Wiki Link[]

Hi I'm Montonius, Lead Administrator/Bureaucrat of the Warhammer 40k Wiki here on Wikia.com. Please note that though we are a relatively new wiki, we have a more in-depth treatment of Space Marine lore than the Lexicanum in many areas and so we would be a great partnership source for the Space Marine Wiki, particularly as we share Wikia.com DNA. I will be placing a link to this wiki on our main page and I'm hoping you could do the same here. Thanks and you're doing a great job, this wiki looks fantastic! Montonius 01:56, September 8, 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, sure. Gotta figure out what would be a natural spot for a promo link. Of course we can/should use cross-wiki linking to your wiki on some backstory topics. --Unknown Primarch 12:04, September 9, 2011 (UTC)

Image copyright[]

how do you set the Copyright thing on images ? --Wolfbite3k

See how it's done with previous images, e.g. this page. Just add the {{Copyright}} template. Also put in a description and a category.
When you edit a talk page, add a heading and your signature so people can see who left the message. --Unknown Primarch 16:23, September 11, 2011 (UTC)

Warhammer 40k Wiki Main Page Button[]

Well, first off, thanks for adding the button. I would just change the text to read "More lore can be found at the Warhammer 40k Wiki" so that its a little more clear what the link does. Thanks again, and if you need to use our wiki to flesh out any of your own complementary pages, please feel free. We ain't the Lexicanum and we love to share our work. LOL. Thanks for helping with the walkthrough[]

Saw you went in and did some clean up work on our walkthrough. Really appreciate the help. Really liked the formatting you did. We'll be following your example for the rest of it. Let me know if you have any other thoughts or comments. tae (talk) 21:25, September 15, 2011 (UTC)

Hi Unknown Primarch,[]

There are a couple of us who still play multiplayer frequently, that are obtaining hard numbers on multiplayer weapons and attacks using empirical testing, to update into the wiki. (Well, okay, actually Dlatrex is doing 99% of the work).

Was wondering if you know of a method to pull numbers from the game itself, or if the hard data already exists somewhere.

Not sure if you still drop in here anymore :D

Cykeisme (talk) 13:07, November 18, 2013 (UTC)

There are modding tools that allow digging out hard data. --Unknown Primarch (talk) 19:12, December 20, 2013 (UTC)

Cleaning up the weapons pages[]

Good day Unknow Primarch! If you are still haunting this wiki a couple of us have a question for you. A trio of us (Cykeisme, Markus Ramikin, and myself) have been doing work to add data to the multiplayer weapons articles and make sure that anything we learn about he game mechanics is clearly written for all site visitors. After talking about it for a while, the three of us think that it would be a good idea to collapse half of the weapons articles so that we do not have two completed different pages which each need the same updates.

For example, Thunder Hammer (multiplayer) and Daemon Maul cover a weapon that is in game identical, and only differs with the skin...and of course the background flavor of the weapon's history.

We would propose that in a case like this we roll the content of both articles together into a single article with the most common (imperial) name, and leave the Chaos name as a redirect to the primary page. That way we only need one set of edits per weapon, and we can still include all the graphics and description of the chaos weapons within the body of the article.

Would this be ok?  If you were agreeable the three of us would do all of the work, and we could execute an example article to make sure everyone is happy. Thanks in advance!
